I'm going to share an IG video post from you, Helen! (Sound on for commentary.)geex.helen wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 5:44 pm What modifications are you instating to equipment in the COVID-19 era?
The continuous melt furnace in the UW Glass Lab has been modified with this five foot long-ish door handle. (That's Tim O'Neill, the incredible 3D studio tech at University of Wisconsin-Madison, operating the door.) I'm excited to see how this works out in practice; definitely will make door handling cooler.
UW's also incorporated a pulley system for the annealer doors, pipe hangers for handoffs, and a third rail for punty assist. Details on the third rail (again, quoted from Helen's IG): "assistant can bring a punty with a standard length punty using the rail as their forward/left hand while staying 6’ away. We will also have 10’ punties, too, but the rail might be more practical long term."
