Description

Inspired by King Cobra’s Jan. 2023 GEEX Talks Lecture, this embroidered patch refers to her sculpture “I’d rather the viscera of me floating on the surface of the sea than be dragged into hell by those pale and free.”

King Cobra’s 2022 solo exhibition REVOLTED was inspired by the 1773 revolt on the slave ship “New Britannia” when captive African people freed themselves and destroyed the vessel — and all its passengers — to resist capture. The exhibition title “revolted” serves as a feeling of disgust, a marker of past uprisings, and a call to action now.

This design references King Cobra’s flayed and flesh-like mixed-media sculptures. Red and white stitches raggedly follow the subtly topographical contours of skin and gore.

Twill fabric (26% cotton, 74% polyester). Heat-resistant.
Dimensions: 3.5″×2.25″
Iron-on, sew-on, or safety pin to your sleeve, backpack, overalls — or wherever you’d like.
